POSSESSION

A 2002 American/British drama, Possession, written and directed by Neil LaBute is based on the novel of the same name by A.S. Byatt.  The film tells the story of two scholars, Roland Michell (Aaron Eckhart) and Maud Bailey (Gwyneth Paltrow), who investigate the affair of fictional Victorian-era poet Randolph Henry Ash (Jeremy Northam), described in letters between him and another fictional poet, Christabel LaMotte (Jennifer Ehle).

BASH

The off-Broadway premiere of Neil LaBute’s Bash: Latter Day Plays, three one-act plays directed by Tony Awards Winner Joe Mantello (Wicked, Assassins, Take Me Out).  Starring Calista Flockhart and Paul Rudd, the limited run was praised by Ben Brantley of The New York Times, saying it was “informed with an earnest, probing moralism as fierce as that of Nathaniel Hawthorne.”  The play then transferred to Los Angeles and then London before being filmed live as a Showtime Presentation (Winner of Jury Award for Best Television Movie at Canadian Banff Awards) and TIME’s 2000 TOP 5 THEATER.

NURSE BETTY

Nurse Betty is darkly comic story about one woman’s incredible determination to make her dreams come true against numerous odds. Fantasy collides with reality as Betty Sizemore (Renee Zellweger) inspires herself and everyone she meets to find at least a piece of their real selves throughout this romantic, dangerously funny road picture. Co-starring Morgan Freeman, Chris Rock, and Greg Kinnear, Nurse Betty helped earn Renee Zellweger her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Comedy/Musical

Your Friends and Neighbors is a 1998 comedy-drama film about unhappy couples falling apart and hopping into beds with other people written and directed by Neil LaBute.  The film stars Amy Brenneman, Aaron Eckhart, Catherine Keener, Natassja Kinski, Jason Patric, and Ben Stiller in an esemble cast.

IN THE COMPANY OF MEN

This 1997 Canadian/American black comedy, the feature film debut of award winning writer/director Neil LaBute, was the recipient of the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay and took him the Filmmaker’s Trophy at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival.  The film revolves around two male coworkers, Chad (Aaron Eckhart) and Howard (Matt Malloy) who, angry and frustrated with women in general, plot to to toy maliciously with the emotions of a dead female subordinate.
